Our Top Interior Decorating Tips To Know When Starting A Project

Figuring out how to decorate a blank canvas or re-model a current room can be overwhelming to some, we totally get it. Colours, textures, patterns, furniture, flooring and everything in-between can be a muddle of thoughts, ideas and questions. That’s where a few simple pieces of interior decorating advice (and our services) come in. Below, we’ve noted down a few top tips to help you navigate to a clear vision when considering to decorate a single room or entire home.
1. Work out what you like (and what you don’t)
Whats your style? We’ve all got one! Check out interior design magazines, interior designer portfolios and social media (instagram and pinterest) and you will soon learn what styles you like the most. Alternatively, figure out what you don’t like and eliminate these when gathering inspiration.
2. Consider the type of property
What will suit a period property, might not suit an ultra modern new build. Of course interiors can transform any space but considering and being sympathetic to the space around you is a must to ensure your interiors feel effortless and natural.
3. Your home will never be a show home…
…and it’s not meant to be. In order for a home to feel cosy and personal, it’s not going to look magazine perfect the entire time. From experience, the homes that feel the best hit the key principles; the perfect mix of colour, texture but they also have personal touches and quirks (just like our personalities!). These are the elements that makes the homeowner, and visitors, feel like they don’t want to leave.
4. Establish a budget
Whatever your budget might be, you are capable of creating a beautiful space. Large or small, there many ways to bring your project together and achieving your vision.
There is a whole world of interior advice out there but we hope these 4 tips will point you in the right direction when starting a project. If you’re need of more, we’re always here to help and welcome any size project with open arms. Simply pop into our Hereford studio and store on Church St or get in touch here.
